What is a microinverter for a solar system?

An inverter converts the DC electricity from the solar panels into AC for use inside strata units.

It is more expensive to have microinverters on each panel than a single centralised inverter. The benefit of microinverters is that where shading of part of the array of panels occurs, the panels which are still in the sunlight can continue to produce electricity.

A second benefit of microinverters is future proofing as it is easier to add additional solar panels to increase the size of the solar system in the future.
